Early Pleistocene River-Fed Paleocoast in Western Umbria (Central Italy): Facies Analysis and Coastal Models

چکیده

Pliocene (?)—early Pleistocene shallow marine deposits, varying from gravel to sand clay, characterize the southernmost sector of Valdichiana Basin, between Orte and Città della Pieve, across Tuscany, Umbria Latium (Central Italy). Facies associations, referring evolution a river-fed coast, with sensible facies heteropy, sub-environment articulation, both alongshore, have been recently described. Although main part territory responds wave-dominated coastal model, clear fluvial sediment origin presence localized river mouths also documented. Nearshore is mainly represented by interbedded beachface upper shoreface in which mouth bar organization lateral distribution beaches are recognizable. Sediment origins largely depend ondebris flow processes, related small alluvial fans/fan deltas. In constrained areas, debris current continental deposits occur, coalescent fans, organized as smoothly seaward-dipping piedmont band, drained braided channels. This roughly system feeds area, fandeltabuild-up. The as-described fan delta beach systems characterized smooth seaward morphology, according models resembling, on coast-transverse profile, shelf-type delta. proposed differ each other’s, respect tothe one, this distribution.

Landslide hazard assessment in the Collazzone area, Umbria, Central Italy

We present the results of the application of a recently proposed model to determine landslide hazard. The model predicts where landslides will occur, how frequently they will occur, and how large they will be in a given area. For the Collazzone area, in the central Italian Apennines, we prepared a multi-temporal inventory map through the interpretation of multiple sets of aerial photographs tak...

The impact of landslides in the Umbria region, central Italy

The Umbria Region of Central Italy has a long history of mass movements. Landslides range from fast moving rock falls and debris flows, most abundant in mountain areas, to slow moving complex failures extending up to several hectares in the hilly part of the Region. Despite landslides occurring every year in Umbria, their impact remains largely unknown. We present an estimate of the impact of s...

Information entropy analysis of seismicity of Umbria-Marche region (Central Italy)

We investigated by means of nonlinear tools the temporal distribution of 1983–2003 seismicity of the Umbria-Marche region, Central Italy, that was struck by a strong event (M=5.8) on 26 September 1997. Information entropy analysis has been performed over the full and the aftershock-depleted catalogue. We analysed the series of the interevent times between successive earthquakes and the series o...
